Community and Formation
The community and formation ministry exists to help create space for you to experience life together in community and to serve and resource you as you journey with Jesus as a disciple.
Below are some ways for you to get started. If you have any questions please reach out using the connect section at the bottom.
Exploring Your Gifts
So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.
Ephesians 4:11-16
The theologian John Calvin wrote many centuries ago: “Without knowledge of self, there is no knowledge of God. Our wisdom … consists almost entirely of two parts: the knowledge of God and of ourselves.”
God has given gifts to you so you might serve the body of Christ in order that we all might be built up. But first, we need awareness of what gifts God might have given us to do this work. You likely have an intuitive sense of what those are. But the short assessment below can give you a more concrete idea. And with a clearer picture, we can bring those gifts to God asking, “What might you be inviting me to serve in this church and this city through what you have given me?”
We would love to connect with you to talk about your spiritual gifts. If you want to explore your gifts more with one of our pastors of leaders, use the Connect with Us form below.
Grow in Community
God often uses our relationships in community to transform us. With rare exception, we cannot grow into the people God has created us—and is transforming us—to be without life together with others.
In addition to gathering together for Sunday worship, we offer a number of different types of small group communities throughout the week at Vineyard Columbus. You can use the Small Group Finder below to explore what’s on offer and to connect with leaders of our communities.
Grow in Jesus
There is a beautiful mystery to how we are transformed. First, it’s, ultimately, all grace—God’s Spirit lives in us and works in us. Yet we also participate in practices through which God shapes us. Philippians 2:12-13 captures this mystery: ”Work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.”
At Vineyard Columbus we summarize these practices in five areas that help us intentionally respond to God’s transforming work: worshiping, belonging, serving, giving, and learning.
Below is a Linktree where we share regularly updated, curated resources you can engage as a disciple journeying with Jesus.
You don’t have to do them all! But what might God be inviting you into this year or maybe even just this month?
